Aftercare Instructions

To ensure the best healing process and long lasting vibrancy for your new piece at Komorebi Corner, please follow these aftercare guidelines carefully.

1. The First Few Hours
  • For Second Skin / Saniderm / Tegaderm: Leave this medical film on for 3 to 5 days and leave it completely alone. It is waterproof and protects the tattoo during the initial healing phase.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap before touching your new tattoo or removing any bandages.
  • For soaker pads: Remove the pad as soon as you get home and begin the cleaning process right away. Do not re-wrap it.
  • Gently wash the tattoo using your fingertips, luke-warm water, and an unscented liquid antibacterial hand soap (Dial Gold is recommended) to remove excess blood, ink, and plasma. Pat dry with a clean paper towel, do not rub.
  • Moisturize immediately after cleaning. Once the tattoo is completely dry from its first wash, apply a super light layer of Aquaphor. Use Aquaphor only for the first couple of days before switching over to a standard unscented hand lotion.
2. Daily Maintenance
Wash and moisturize 2 to 3 times a day. Keep up this routine daily until your tattoo is completely healed. Do not over-moisturize. A thin layer of lotion is all you need, the skin needs to breathe to heal properly. Expect some peeling and itching. As the tattoo heals, it will flake like a sunburn. This is completely normal.
3. What to Avoid
  • Do not pick, scratch, hit, or peel the flaking skin. Forcing the scabs or skin off prematurely can pull the ink out and cause patchy healing.
  • Avoid submerging the tattoo in water. Absolutely no swimming pools, hot tubs, lakes, or baths for at least 2 to 3 weeks. Showers are perfectly fine.
  • Keep it out of the sun. Direct sunlight will damage the healing skin and fade the ink.
  • Do not apply sunscreen until the tattoo is completely healed.
4. Activity & Clothing
  • Wear loose, breathable clothing over the tattoo to prevent friction, irritation, and lint sticking to the area.
  • Avoid high-intensity exercise and excessive sweating for the first 48 hours, especially if the tattoo is over a joint or high movement area.
  • Protect it while sleeping. Keep the area exposed or covered with clean, loose clothing to prevent it from sticking to your bedsheets.
5. Long-Term Care
  • Always use SPF. Once your tattoo is fully healed apply a high-quality sunscreen whenever you are outdoors to preserve its crispness and color. (Healed tattoos should look just like your skin. No shininess, itchiness, or scabbing should be occurring)
  • Stay hydrated. Healthy, hydrated skin keeps a tattoo looking vibrant for years to come.

Important Note: If you experience extreme swelling, spreading redness, a fever, or suspect an infection, please consult a healthcare professional immediately and notify your artist.
